The Mighty Oak

A new community recognition, honoring strength, longevity, and roots in the community
Picture
The Mighty Oak Award is presented annually to a member of the Three Oaks community whose unwavering dedication, spirit, and involvement have helped our village grow and thrive. Like the oak tree—strong, enduring, and deeply rooted—this individual stands as a symbol of service, leadership, and heart.

This award recognizes a resident who actively contributes to local organizations, events, and initiatives, and whose efforts cultivate a stronger, more connected Three Oaks. Through their time, energy, and passion, the recipient of The Mighty Oak Award exemplifies what it means to give back and help our small town flourish.

2025 WINNER : GLOria thomas

When nominations opened, we were overwhelmed with more than 20 heartfelt submissions. Each one reflected the quiet heroes among us—neighbors, friends, and volunteers whose efforts often go unnoticed but make a lasting impact on the heart of Three Oaks.

We are proud to name Gloria Thomas as the first recipient of the Mighty Oak Award. Gloria’s dedication to Three Oaks is woven into the fabric of our village. She has:

  • Organized fundraisers for local students, neighbor needs, and the American Legion
  • Supported River Valley sports and built floats for parades
  • Baked, planted, cleaned, and cheered
  • Welcomed neighbors with cookouts & warm smiles—often from the building she once owned in the center of town
  • Even handed out White Castle burgers during Flag Day, just for the joy of it

Known lovingly as a “mom” to everyone in the neighborhood, Gloria gives tirelessly of her time, energy, and heart. If you’ve walked past fresh flowers downtown, attended a Flag Day celebration, or felt a welcoming presence at a local event, chances are you’ve seen Gloria’s touch.

Gloria’s story reminds us that real leadership is humble and hands-on. The Mighty Oak Award will continue to honor those who give of themselves, year after year, to help our village grow strong and beautiful.

Let’s hear it for our 2025 Mighty Oak and for all who plant the seeds of kindness and care in Three Oaks.
